🎂 Your Cake Smash Session Guide
Your little one’s first birthday is such a special milestone, and I can’t wait to celebrate it with you!
Here’s everything you need to know before your cake smash session so you can arrive feeling relaxed and ready to have some fun.
🎂 The Cake
Please double-check your booking to see whether you have chosen for me to provide the cake, or whether you will be bringing your own.
Please note that the option for me to provide the cake is only available if your little one has no allergies.
If you’re unsure which option you booked, please get in touch with me before your session and I’ll be happy to confirm this for you.
If you are providing the cake yourself, please remember to bring it with you on the day.
👗 What Should My Little One Wear?
I have a variety of gorgeous cake smash outfits available at the studio for you to choose from, so you don’t need to worry about finding something especially for the session.
However, you’re more than welcome to bring your own outfit if you have something special you’d love your little one to wear.
If you’re unsure what will work best with your chosen cake smash setup, feel free to ask me before your session.
🤍 Before We Bring Out the Cake
Your session doesn’t have to be all about the cake!
Before the cake smash begins, we can take a few simple, timeless portraits of your birthday boy or girl on a plain background. They can wear a simple outfit for a couple of lovely portraits before changing into their cake smash outfit.
This is also the perfect time for family and sibling photographs if you’d like to be included.
For family photographs, simple and neutral clothing works beautifully. Try to coordinate rather than match exactly, and avoid large logos, bold patterns or anything that may distract from your little one.
🎶 Help Me Get Those Smiles!
You know your little one better than anyone, so it can be really helpful to let me know before your session if there are any songs, TV shows, characters or anything else they absolutely love.
I can have a few of their favourites ready to help grab their attention and hopefully bring out some of those gorgeous smiles!
🎂 Cake Smash Time!
Then it’s time for the messy part!
Every little one reacts differently to their cake. Some dive straight in, while others need a little encouragement — and that’s completely fine. We’ll follow their lead and let them explore at their own pace.
One little warning for parents… you may end up wearing some of the cake too! 😂
Parents often need to get involved, whether that’s encouraging little one to explore the cake, helping them have a taste or simply being within grabbing distance of some very messy hands!
It’s worth being prepared for this when choosing what you wear to the session — cake and icing have a habit of getting everywhere!
And please don’t worry about the mess… that’s exactly what cake smash sessions are for!
🛁 Bath Time
After the cake smash, we’ll finish with a little bath time. This is a lovely way to clean your little one up after all that cake, while also capturing some super-cute final photographs.
PLEASE BRING A TOWEL FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE.
You may also want to bring a clean outfit for them to travel home in afterwards.
✨ A Few Things to Bring
• Your cake, if you are providing your own
• Any special outfit you’d like your little one to wear
• A plain outfit for their pre-cake portraits, if you’d like to use your own
• Clean clothes for afterwards
• Favourite snacks or a drink for your little one
• Any comfort item they may need
• A TOWEL FOR BATH TIME
Most importantly, come ready to have fun! Cake smash sessions can be messy, unpredictable and full of personality — and that’s exactly what makes them so special.
I can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with you and create some gorgeous memories of your little one’s first birthday. 🎂🤍
